What Is the MORE Framework?
MORE is an acronym that stands for Motor action, Oral skills, Respiration, and Eyes (vision). This framework helps clinicians understand how the coordination of these systems—beginning with the suck-swallow-breathe (SSB) synchrony—shapes sensory-motor and postural development from infancy through childhood and beyond.
This online course explores the dynamic interactions between these foundational systems and how they can either support or interfere with normal developmental trajectories. The course emphasizes neuroanatomy, motor control, and clinical reasoning to support evidence-based interventions.
Course Highlights:
Led by experienced clinical specialists Patricia Oetter and Eileen Richter, this course offers:
-
A deep dive into the neurological and biomechanical underpinnings of SSB
-
Practical lab demonstrations
-
Case studies to reinforce clinical applications
-
Strategies to improve outcomes in children with sensory-motor challenges
What Is the Virtual MORE Course?
Adapted from the renowned in-person workshop, the Virtual MORE Course offers 10.25 hours of recorded content, organized into 3 modules with 3–6 units each.
🗂️ To view a breakdown of each module, visit the Course Materials section.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
-
Describe the anatomical structures, neurological pathways, and biomechanics of the SSB synchrony
-
Explain how SSB evolves into synergistic motor patterns supporting complex functions
-
Recognize typical vs. atypical development of SSB in children with sensory and developmental differences
-
Document subtle SSB disruptions through functional observation
-
Apply treatment techniques to enhance oral-motor and respiratory function
-
Implement strategies to improve self-regulation, postural control, feeding, communication, visual-motor integration, and breathing patterns

The instructors

MPH, OTR/L, FAOTA
Ms. Richter graduated with a BS in occupational therapy from the College of St Catherine and earned her Master of Public Health in Maternal and Child Health from the University of Minnesota. She has over 40 years of pediatric experience in a variety of settings, including children's hospitals, public schools, preschools and neonatal intensive care units. She has extensive background in sensory integration theory and treatment, is NDT certified, and has completed the NDT Baby Course. She has lectured throughout the United States, Europe, South America and Asia on topics related to sensorimotor integration, oral motor/respiratory development and pediatric occupational therapy.
Ms. Richter helped establish and Co-Directed the Avanti Camp in Wisconsin (a sensory integration summer camp for children with sensory processing disorders) for many years. Ms. Richter has been instrumental in bringing continuing education opportunities to thousands of therapists around the country through Professional Development Programs and is now developing therapeutic equipment and other resources under the brand Richter Active Integration Resources (RAIR).
Ms. Richter has published several professional books and articles on sensory-motor integration assessment and treatment for children with developmental delays and sensory processing dysfunction, including, MORE: Integrating the Mouth with Sensory and Postural Functions, the MORE DVD and Out of the Mouths of Babes, Sensorimotor Integration for Developmentally Delayed Children and The Sensorimotor Performance Analysis.

MA, OT, FAOTA
Ms. Oetter earned her bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Kansas and her master's degree in Special Education with special emphasis on Behavior and Learning Disorders from Kansas State University at Fort Hays State.
Clinically, Ms Oetter is an occupational therapist with over 40 years of pediatric clinical experience in sensory integration therapy, Therapeutic Listening, Samonas Sound Therapy, Cranial Sacral therapy and neurodevelopmental treatment (NDT). Her work encompasses many disability groups from newborn to adult, especially infants and children with oral motor, learning, communication and/or behavior disorders. For her contributions to Occupational therapy, she has been honored as a Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association and awarded two Service Awards as well.
Currently, Ms. Oetter is a private consultant for families, school districts, and service providers in both the public and private sectors specializing in the provision of diagnostic, therapeutic intervention, and program development services.
Ms. Oetter also has coauthored a number of publications including, MORE: Integrating the Mouth with Sensory and Postural Functions, of which she is the primary author, the MORE DVD, and Out of the Mouths of Babes. She has contributed numerous articles and book chapters over the years.
